Important Information for air arabia Passengers – A Mandatory UAE Liquid Policy for Hand Baggage Applies from 30 June 2007

Please make sure that you read the following requirements carefully to avoid confusion and longer check-in times at the airport.

Mandatory UAE Liquid Policy for Hand Baggage

The UAE Government has signed an agreement to comply with international standards on aviation liquid policy, whereby all airports across the UAE are required to implement the changes by the end of June 2007.

The new regulation on liquids applies to all air passengers travelling from Sharjah international Airport, regardless of their destination. At Sharjah Airport, the changes are effective from 30 June 2007.

What are the rules regarding the carriage of liquids on a flight?

Any liquids, aerosols, gels or pastes greater than 100ml each must be packed in your check-in baggage. Any individual container over 100ml in your hand baggage (even if less than 100ml still inside) will not be allowed onboard and will be confiscated by security.

Any liquids, aerosols, gels or pastes less than 100ml must be held in individual containers. This may include:

  • Liquid or aerosol deodorants
  • Perfumes
  • Creams
  • Hair gel, hair spay
  • Suntan lotions
  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Cosmetics such as mascara and lip gloss
  • Water and other drinks, soups and syrups
  • Other items of similar consistency

The containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag that does not exceed 20 cm x 20cm or equivalent to one litre capacity.

Items must fit in the bag comfortably and the bag must be completely closed.

At the airport security search, the plastic bag must be removed from hand baggage and x-ray screened separately.

Does the bag have to be a particular type?

You may use any kind of bag provided that it is:

  • Clear plastic
  • No bigger than 20 cm x 20 cm or equivalent to one litre capacity
  • A zip-top or re-sealable

Can I use a bigger bottle or container if the quantity of liquid does not exceed 100ml?

No. The container must not exceed the permitted size of 100ml for passengers departing Sharjah Airport.

Are there certain liquid types I cannot take onboard?

No, as long as the container is not larger than 100ml. You may take cosmetic and toiletry liquids, such as toothpaste, shampoo, suntan lotion, hair spray and hair gel, liquid or aerosol deodorants, mascara and lip gloss.

Do solid cosmetics and toiletries such as lipstick or stick deodorant need to go in the clear plastic bag?

No. Non-liquid based toiletries and cosmetics may be packed in your hand baggage with a plastic bag.

Can I take more than one clear plastic bag with me?

No. You will only be allowed one bag per person.

Are there any exceptions for certain liquid containers?

Yes. Exceptions are made for medications, baby milk/foods and special dietary or other medical requirements. For the liquid to be exempted you will be required to provide proof for the exempted liquid, for example a doctor’s certificate for a condition. Please note that you will only be allowed an amount of liquid that is sufficient for the journey you are taking that day.

Can I still purchase Duty Free Goods?

Yes. When you make a purchase onboard and you are NOT transiting and boarding another flight then no further action is required. In the case of airport transit to another flight, the crew onboard will seal your purchase in a secure bag. Please do not open/tamper with the bag otherwise it will be confiscated at the next security screening point prior to boarding your connecting flight.

When you make a purchase at a Duty Free Shop, Duty Free Shop staff will seal your purchase in a secure plastic bag. Again, please do not open/tamper with the bag otherwise it will be confiscated at the security screening point prior to boarding the aircraft.
